TIDS 'n BITS
A tie by any other name is a tie? Certainly not when it comes to Hermes.
Since 1949 they have created exquisite, whimsical, smart and elegant silk ties.
As many as 14 graphic designers design pattern and color before
hand-stenciling it onto silk.
Hermes is the only house to create a tie with 10 different colours which
they created by using their 40 'mother' colours to garner as many as
75,000 hues!
Then delivered to the printer the rolls of silk are printed from the
smallest to the largest motif, and the darkest to the lightest colour.
Prior to cutting the textile goes through a printing ream to assure the elements
are perfect, and is checked every 10 meters by pulling at the tie frame.
Mass produced ties have three parts when cutting a tie. Hermes has
just 2 panels from the same piece of silk.
Sewing is done by hand with a single piece of thread per tie.
The trademark dovetail is created by folding and stitching the fabric five times over.
And gentlemen, your tie in the back is as beautiful as the front.
