A Botanical Study in Porcelain
The Hermès Index Palmarum ashtray is a refined decorative object that blends botanical illustration with timeless craftsmanship.
Designed by Katie Scott, this piece draws inspiration from the natural order of palm leaves, reimagined through a modern Hermès lens.
Rendered in the radiant Soleil colorway, the design feels warm, luminous, and uplifting.
As a result, it brings both artistry and light to any interior.
Artful Detail & Signature Finish
This ashtray is crafted in decorated porcelain using chromolithography, a technique prized for its clarity and depth of color.
Each detail appears crisp and intentional, allowing the botanical motif to stand out beautifully.
In addition, hand painted gold trim frames the design with a subtle glow.
That finishing touch elevates the piece and reflects the meticulous standards of Hermes.
Designed for Display
Although functional, this Index Palmarum ashtray serves equally well as a decorative accent.
Place it on a desk, console, or side table to add a refined touch of color and pattern.
Because the base is protected with velvet goatskin stamped Hermès Paris, it rests safely on delicate surfaces.
Therefore, it suits both everyday enjoyment and thoughtful gifting.

TIDS ‘n BITS
Katie Scott’s design draws inspiration from the pages of the “Historia Naturalis Palmarum,” a 19th-century treatise on palms by German botanist, ethnographer, and explorer Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius. The astonishingly diverse forms and colors of these ancient plants ignite the imagination. Embracing the botanical tradition, Scott has selected a few specimens from this palm family, which she describes as “the embodiment of exoticism,” to transport us through her intricate design.
